The Nurts Tales Comes to Life: A Day of Stories, Health and Family Learning

The Nurts Tales Comes to Life: A Day of Stories, Health and Family Learning

On 8 August 2026, we celebrated a very special milestone: the official launch of The Nurts Tales: Growing Strong, Inside and Out, co-created by The Nurts and healthcare experts from Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC).

But this wasn’t only about launching a new book.

We wanted families to experience the ideas behind the stories together: understanding emotions, building healthy habits, learning about our bodies and helping children feel confident asking questions and speaking up.

Starting With Conversations for Parents

The afternoon began with an insightful fireside chat featuring Adrian Tan, Co-founder of The Nurts and author of the book, together with Dr Sanjay Woodhull, Consultant Paediatrician at SJMC, Dr Wan Asyikin binti Wan Azlan, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at SJMC, and Joanne Lee, Director of Business Development, Strategy & Transformation at SJMC.

Together, they explored children’s physical and emotional wellbeing, healthy habits, emotional regulation and how parents can make important health conversations feel more natural at home.

Because children don’t only need to know what to do. Helping them understand why can give them greater confidence to understand their own bodies, feelings and wellbeing.

Then, The Stories Came to Life 📚

One of our favourite moments was seeing our little readers gather for an interactive storytelling session.

The children didn’t simply sit and listen. They joined the story, responded to questions and explored what they could do when things didn’t go the way they hoped.

One simple lesson was learning to pause and take a deep breath when things don’t feel good. 💛

It was a small activity, but an important reminder that children can begin learning ways to recognise and manage their emotions from an early age.

Learning About Health Through Play

The learning continued beyond storytime.

Children had the opportunity to discover what goes inside an emergency first aid kit, introducing them to basic health and safety concepts in a way they could see, touch and understand.

Nutrition became a game too. Through Happy Diners, children explored different food groups and learned about building balanced meals while playing together with their families.

Instead of health feeling like a list of instructions from adults, the activities gave children a chance to experience, ask questions and learn through play.

And that is exactly what we hoped this launch would be.

A space where health conversations could feel less intimidating and become part of everyday family moments.

Nurts Tales: Growing Strong, Inside and Out

At the heart of The Nurts Tales: Growing Strong, Inside and Out are five relatable stories featuring Zoey, Mia, Liam, Noah and Teddy Paws.

Co-created with healthcare experts from SJMC, the stories explore emotional wellbeing, healthy habits, nutrition, open communication and understanding illness in ways young children can relate to.

Each story also comes with reflection prompts, discussion questions and practical guidance, giving parents another way to continue these conversations beyond the book.

Seeing children listen, play, ask questions and learn alongside their parents at the launch reminded us why we created this book in the first place.

The goal isn’t simply to finish a story. It’s to start a conversation.

And the Story Continues…

Thank you to every Nurts Fam who joined us and brought so much energy and excitement to the launch. 💛

And a special thank you to Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) and its healthcare experts for bringing their knowledge and experience into this collaboration and sharing our belief in helping children become more confident about their health and wellbeing.
