Together, We Grow: The Nurts Unveils Its Second Album

The Nurts began with a simple belief: some of the most important lessons in a child's life can be nurtured through moments of play, conversation and connection. Founded by husband-and-wife duo Adrian and Rachel, the homegrown family brand grew from their own experience as parents searching for meaningful and enjoyable ways to support their children’s development.

The journey started with card games designed to bring families together. Instead of treating learning as something formal or separate from everyday life, The Nurts uses play to encourage meaningful conversations and help children explore values, emotions and important life skills. A game around the table can become an opportunity to listen, laugh and learn more about one another.

Over time, the world of The Nurts expanded beyond card games. Adrian and Rachel began creating stories, events and shared experiences for children and parents. Each new format offered another way to support the same purpose: nurturing joy, connection and growth within families.

Music is the latest chapter in that journey. With their new album, The Nurts is turning its stories, values and childhood memories into songs that children can enjoy wherever they are, at home, in the car or during playtime. Catchy melodies make the songs fun and memorable, while the lyrics invite children to ask questions, discover new ideas and connect with the messages behind them.

In this interview, Adrian and Rachel share why they chose music as their next creative medium, how the new songs were developed and which tracks hold the most meaning for them personally. Watch their fun interview about the new album here!

Did you ever think The Nurts would release an album?

Adrian: Not an album specifically, but I did think The Nurts was going to go far beyond just card games.

Are you a musician? Why did you decide to make music?

Adrian: I'm not a musician, although I've written poems my whole life. We chose music because I think it is a very powerful medium, especially for children.

When our kids listen to songs in the car or elsewhere, they really latch on to the lyrics. They repeat them and ask questions about them, so music can be a great medium for learning.

Rachel: We have continued creating experiences, events and stories. Music can carry the emotions from those experiences, allowing people to remember them even after an event is over. To me, that is quite powerful.

How do you come up with the songs?

Adrian: For this album, Rachel first came up with the themes she wanted us to cover. My process normally starts with the story I want to tell or the message I want to communicate through the lyrics.

From there, I structure the idea in a way that children can easily digest. I simplify it into shorter ideas that run throughout the song. Then, of course, we choose a musical genre and instruments that will appeal to children.

Which song from the album means the most to you personally?

Rachel: For me, it would be the first song, “The Nurts Anthem.” I really like it. The tune was inspired by “The Nurts Adventures,” and after Adrian reworked the song, I could really relate to it. It reminded me of how we started and where we are headed.

My second choice is “Search Party!” I really like that song, too. It is connected to a new game I created, which is perhaps why I relate to it so well. It is fun and very catchy, so go and listen to it!

Adrian: The song that means the most to me personally is “Play Like We Used To.” It was inspired by our childhood memories of how people played in the days before screens.

While I was writing it, I let our children listen to previews. They had many questions about the lyrics and the games I described in the song. More recently, they started playing with ice cream sticks, which is one of the activities I mention. Our eldest and middle child played against each other and had a blast.

I think the song gives children an opportunity to experience a little of the childhood that our generation had.

How would you describe the new album in three words?

Rachel: Warm, happy and joyful.

Adrian: Heartfelt, wholesome and purposeful.
