From Wildlife to Wonder: The Zoo-Themed Card Game Co-Created with Sunway Theme Parks

What if your next zoo visit does not end at the exit but continues at the dinner table, in the classroom, or during family game night?

That’s the spirit behind Wonders of the Wild (WOTW), a brand-new card game designed by The Nurts in collaboration with Sunway Theme Parks. Inspired by 20 real animals in Sunway’s Wildlife Park, this game helps children explore the world of wildlife while building empathy, curiosity, and critical thinking to care for the animals, all through the power of play.

So here’s why WOTW is the purrrrfect pick for play — or should we say, rawrrrfect?

A Game Where Kids Become Zookeepers

WOTW puts children in the role of young zookeepers, guiding them to learn how to care for 20 unique animal species. Through critical thinking and problem-solving, players match each animal with its correct habitat, food, and adaptation traits. The game can also ignite questions that address relevant topics like food scarcity and ecosystems, allowing children to understand the specific needs of each animal they care for. Thus, it creates opportunities for conversations and reflections with parents as they gain knowledge.

This isn’t just make-believe—it's grounded in real-world expertise! Every animal card and gameplay challenge has been developed with the help of wildlife experts, vets, and zookeepers at Sunway Theme Parks. This means that while kids are having fun, they're also learning incredible facts about animal behaviour and care alongside essential principles of zoology.

As players determine whether a Malayan tiger would thrive in a jungle or a swamp or how the animals adapt to their environments, they learn about each animal's specific care requirements, fostering empathy and responsibility.

The best part is the WOTW is bilingual (English & Bahasa Melayu).

Play-Based Learning That Sticks

At its heart, WOTW emphasises the power of play-based education, where enjoyment is the driving force, and meaningful learning is the result.

The game uniquely combines structured objectives with open-ended exploration. Children make decisions about animal care, play with other players, and reflect on the impacts of their choices. This approach not only makes the learning experience more engaging but also ensures that the lessons resonate beyond the gameplay.

With guidance from Dr Pakee, Wildlife Director at Sunway Theme Parks, the game goes beyond traditional education. It immerses children in real-world animal care responsibilities, teaching them how to responsibly care for the 20 animals featured in the game.

More Than a Game — It’s a Mindset

“How do animals survive in the wild?”

“What kind of environments do they need to live in?”

“What can I do to help protect their habitats?”

That’s the real win — when play turns into perspective.
